Columbia Broth is used for the cultivation of a wide variety of fastidious microorganisms in a laboratory setting. Columbia Broth is not intended for use in the diagnosis of disease or other conditions in humans. Columbia Broth is prepared according to the formula described by Morello and Ellner. During their study, Columbia Broth was developed as a medium for blood cultures and found superior to a commonly used broth for growth of Staphylococcus aureus, E. coli, and streptococci.
